User Involvement and Advocacy

Equality needs to be firmly rooted within the user-involvement agenda.   This means that all public services should involve people who use the services the way they are planned and carried out.   This also means widening people's access to advocacy services when they feel that they do not have a voice in the services they receive.

The Cumbrian multi-cultural services provides a confidential advocacy service to members of the black & minority ethnic community with outreach facilities in Barrow, Maryport and Penrith, and further facilities planned.

Cumbrian Multi-Cultural Service

To ensure that underrepresented groups are involved in the work of Cumbria County Council we have a three year Service Level Agreement with these organizations:

The service level agreement includes:

  • Joint action on consultation
  • Objectives and targets on developing user networks
  • User involvement in the implementation of the Cumbria Equality Scheme
