Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund

Money Keeps Coming in ………….. and going out – Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund

David Ramshaw today presented a cheque for £8,000 to the Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund – being the proceeds of sales of his book of flood photographs of Keswick and Workington.   David’s earlier book of Cockermouth photo’s raised £4,000 for the appeal.

The total amount donated to the Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund is now over £2.5million.

Andy Beeforth, Director of the Community Foundation which is running the Fund said “it is donations like David’s and countless others which have enabled direct help and comfort to be given to people affected by the floods and I offer my sincere thanks”.

So far the fund has distributed £1.44 million pounds.   This has been used on emergency grants for individual households and to community groups.   Some of the groups have been directly affected others have been or are still providing help to people who have been affected by the floods. Group grants include Citizens Advice Bureau, Relate and Age Concern.

£721,594 of the fund has been distributed to 847 families across Cumbria.   Three quarters of this money has gone directly to flooded households with the remainder going to people who were not flooded but have lost their income as a result of the floods.   It also includes low incomes families who have incurred significant travel costs as a result of the loss of the road bridges.

About half of the flood affected households are still not back in their homes. The appeal will continue to support people in hardship.
