Alternative Employment Programme

Skip main menu

Please note the Alternative Employment Programme is for Cumbria County Council employees only

Our aim is to provide recruiting managers and staff whose jobs are at risk one site to find all the relevant information.

The Alternative Employment Programme (AEP) has been developed to ensure that whenever possible the council retains the valuable skills, experiences and knowledge of its employees.  This also means that employees have the opportunity to continue working at the council and continue to deliver excellent services.

Getting started

As an employee you can join the AEP if:

  • You become pregnant and cannot continue in your current post; or your post is declared redundant during maternity leave
  • Through ill-health or disability, you cannot continue in your current post or where another post could be more suitable due to your disability with a reasonable adjustment
  • You have been identified as at risk of redundancy through restructuring or at the end of a fixed term contract. In this circumstance you need to have a years minimum continuous service on the date that your employment is due to terminate
  • Reasons connected with discipline, grievance or capability
  • Apprenticeship is coming to an end

Once your line manager or directorate HR manager has confirmed that you are eligible to seek alternative employment within the council and have submitted the Managers Authorisation Form to the recruitment team, you will need to complete an Employee Preferences Form and a CCC application form. We will use these to match you to suitable vacancies across the council.
