Surestart Scheme:  The aim of Surestart is 'to work with parents and children to promote the physical, intellectual and social development of pre-school children - particularly those who are disadvantaged to ensure they are ready to flourish when they start school'. This is achieved by setting up local Sure Start programmes to improve services for families with children under four and by spreading good practice learned from local programmes to everyone else involved in providing services for young children. Cumbria Libraries are committed to the Surestart Scheme. For more details on the Surestart scheme, check out their web-pages at http://www.surestart.gov.uk (external link)

Activities:
What else is there at the library? Children love being read stories. It helps their communication skills, reading and can be a lot of fun. Some libraries offer regular storytimes specifically aimed at children under five.During school holidays we hold regular special activity days, which provide opportunities for even the youngest library user. Children's librarians are here to offer advice on choosing books and can arrange talks to under 5's groups.
