On 5 May Cumbria County Council's Cabinet agreed on the next steps for the Longtown Moving Forward project as well as earmarking £170,000 for work specifically to upgrade the Parish fields. Work is currently underway to get the council into a position where it can apply for outline planning permission for its proposals for the Lochinvar school site.
The Sports Turf Research Institute have now submitted their report to the county council. As promised the full report is being made publicly available. Their report will be discussed at the Longtown and Bewcastle Neighbourhood Forum on 25/2/09.

Longtown and Bewcastle Neighbourhood Forum received an update on the project at their 1/10/08 meeting. The presentation explained the current situation and the approximate timetable that the councils were working to. You can download a PDF of the presentation.
We could only fit a couple of the architect's impressions into the newsletter but we've got a few more. They show things from different angles and give a fuller idea of how things could look. Let us know what you think.

Following the last meeting of the Longtown moving forward project board (the group overseeing the whole project) the timescales for the project have been amended. Follow the link to find out more.
Have a read of Newsletter no. 2 before anyone else!We've just sent newsletter no. 2 off to the printers and it should be delivered to all households by 11 May. But if you want a sneak preview you're in the right place. Any feedback appreciated.
The first phase of consultation as part of Longtown moving forward is now complete. In total we received over 70 discussion booklets, and given many were completed by groups we estimate about 300 people had their say in this way. Additionally we've had a good response to the scribble posters in the Community Centre and in locations across the town. We've made all the (anonymised) comments from the discussion booklets available for you to view, just follow the link.
Around 40 local people attended the Longtown and Bewcastle forum meeting on 12/3/08. During the meeting representatives from the council provided an update on the project. Meeting attendees then got involved in an exercise designed to gather ideas and opinions on all the different facilities in the town. A full report on the forum meeting will follow soon.
The first issue of the Longtown moving forward newsletter has just been delivered to households in Longtown. The newsletter's full of information about the project and details of how you can get involved. Check it out and tell us what you think!
We've identified 50 groups/clubs who use either the Parish rooms, Lochinvar School, the primary school or the Community Centre. It is important that this list is complete so we can make sure all groups have a chance to have their say in the Longtown moving forward project. Check the list and see if your group is mentioned!
Neighbourhood forum kicks off Longtown moving forwardOver 60 people got together on 16/1/08 in Longtown community centre to talk about Longtown moving forward and how to get people involved.
