Partnership Working

The Barrow Local Committee work in partnership with many other organisations that are active in the Barrow borough area. These include Barrow Borough Council, Barrow & District Council for Voluntary Service, Parish Councils, Local Strategic Partnership etc.

Involving and Supporting Local People

Neighbourhood Forums
There are ten Neighbourhood Forums in Barrow and Dalton that hold meetings and these are held in response to residents' issues to ensure that consultation is undertaken when required by the residents concerned.  The Neighbourhood Forums are held flexibly throughout the year to encompass this.

Other Consultations
Consultations are undertaken through issue-based Neighbourhood Forums focusing on particular groups of people e.g. youth, elderly or concentrating on the issue appertaining to the residents' area.  A number of partners also use the Neighbourhood Forums to consult on projects they are undertaking such as the Waterfront Masterplan Development (West Lakes Renaissance) and Hindpool United Utilities Programme (United Utilities) and Cumbria Constabulary focussing on ward issues.

Consultation is also undertaken through a 'Have Your Say Day' which gives residents from the Barrow area to raise issues of concern to them. Departments such as Environmental Health, Housing, Highways etc. are in attendance to note residents' concerns. Residents have an opportunity to meet their local County Councillors and the events are widely publicised through the radio, local newspaper and leaflets.

Neighbourhood Grants Panel
Nine of the ten Neighbourhood Forums do not consider grants as these are deal with separately at the Local Committee Neighbourhood Grants Panel. However, each Neighbourhood Forum area does have an earmarked amount which can be distributed throughout the whole of the borough. The Forum is informed of the groups supported by the Grants Panel within the ward and the amount of funding received. The Neighbourhood Grants Panel offers voluntary organisations a streamlined process from submission of application to receipt of funds.
