Community Activity
Drop Ins are like mini forums. They are informal opportunities for you to have a chat about council services, local concerns, gratnts etc. Where possible these are organised with other agencies so that information across a range of topics is available.
North Allerdale Community Board - North Allerdale is one of the five areas around the county which is hosting a pilot community board. The Board is looking at ways of working together more effectively at a local level to ensure that residents get the best and most appropriate services. County, Borough, and Parish Councillors together with community representatives make up the board membership. Meetings are open to the public and questions may be out to the board by giving 24 hours notice. The next meeting of the board is 29 April 2008.
Forum Meetings
The Neighbourhood Forum meets four times a year around the area. If you would like a meeting to be held in your village please let Pat Ackred, Neighbourhood Development Officer, know or ask your local councillor.
The County Council uses Neighbourhood Forums to consult on important changes to services and local groups can publicise community projects and get grants towards their activities from Neighbourhood Forums if they can show how these benefit the local community.
You can also raise matters of local concern which will then be taken up with the organisation responsible e.g. Police or Health etc
Forum Area
The Forum covers the town of Aspatria and the rural villages around the town. Employment is largely in agriculture, two large companies located in Aspatria and small retail businesses and other small businesses.
The population of the Forum area is 4700.
The A596 between Carlisle and Workington carrying a high number of heavy goods vehicles runs through the town of Aspatria and raises a number of safety and environmental issues.
