Ennerdale & Kinniside Parish Council are in the final stages of putting together their Parish Plan, the launch of which is expected in early summer. Phone the parish Clerk, Chas Coley, on 01946 862805 for an update.
Lamplugh Parish Council have commissioned a feasibilty study that looks at the possibility of extending the cycle path network in the parish. An open meeting is to be held at Kirkland Mission to get residents views on this plan. The meeting starts at 7.00pm and is to take place on Wednesday 5th May. Forum Meetings
The forum meets a minimum of four times per year, there being two public meetings and two core group meetings where grant applications are discussed. The core group meetings are held at Beckermet Reading Rooms, whilst the public meetings are held at a variety of venues throughout the forum area.
Forum Area
The Gosforth and Ennerdale Forum area covers the largely rural area to the south and east of Egremont and Cleator Moor. There is a small urban pocket within the area, this being Thornhill, and the massive industrial complex that is BNFL Sellafield within the forum are but in the main it comprises small villages and hamlets and rolling fells. The highest mountain in England, Scafell Pike is also contained within the area. Large parts of the forum area fall within the Lake District National Park.
The population of the area is approximately 5,500 and has remained relatively stable over the last ten years. BNFL are the major employer within the area.
As might be expected, the future of the nuclear industry is a matter of concern within the forum area as is the future of agriculture. Tourism is a growing part of the economy of this area.
