Millom Forum Area

Community Activity

Much of the community activity in the area revolves around the Millom and Haverigg Economic Development Group who act as a focus for several different interest groups. These include the tourism group, the museum group, the environmental group, the Millom web site group and the community newspaper Nexus. For more information about the activities of the Economic Development Group please contact the chair: Christine Lovell on 01229 773117.

The Millom Judo Club are very well supported within the town and are currently fund-raising to build a new club house on a brown-field site on the outskirts of Millom. They are nationally recognised as one of the best Judo Clubs in Cumbria. For more information please contact: Bill Pendleton on 01229 774856.

Forum Meetings

The Millom Neighbourhood Forum meets a minimum of four times per year with meetings being held in a variety of venues within Millom town.

Forum Area

The Millom Forum area covers the town of Millom, the village of Haverigg and the area immediately surrounding these two centres of population.

Within the area there is a small industrial base in Millom and HMP Haverigg that offer employment opportunities though the majority of the workforce have to travel outwith the area to work.

The population of the area is a little over 7,350 and this figure is continuing to fall as it has done over the last ten years.

Geographically, Millom is isolated it being 50/60 minutes away from any major centre of population, and the issues that are important to the community tend to relate in some way to this isolation. Transport, employment and policing are all major areas of concern.
