What we do

Youth workers meeting

Cumbria County Council has established a large network of over 60 forums to enable people to meet informally with their elected representatives. Forums come in all shapes and sizes because they work in the way best suited to their own particular area. Most hold regular meetings where local people can suggest issues for discussion. The local county councillor usually chairs these informal meetings and ensures that vital matters are reported back to Local Committees or the District Council so that the necessary actions can be taken.

With your involvement and feedback we can:

  • help local councillors to voice your needs and wishes.
  • provide opportunities for people to work together and get things done locally.
  • exchange information and discuss local initiatives, plans and developments.
  • provide an opportunity for small grants to be fairly distributed to community groups.
  • help your County Council to target services more effectively.
