Bid to cut congestion

Cumbria County Council is installing state-of-the-art traffic lights at a busy junction in Kendal to reduce delays. The work will be done next week at the junction of Milnthorpe Road and Romney Road on the south side of the town. The £15,000 scheme, being carried out for South Lakeland Local Committee of Cumbria County Council, starts on Monday April 28, and is due to finish on Friday May 2.

County councillor Anne Parker, chair of the local committee, said:

“The aim of these works is to replace the existing traffic signals with a new system which will use the latest technology to adapt to traffic levels and reduce congestion and delays at this busy junction. “We are asking motorists to bear with us next week while the work is going on.”

During the works temporary traffic signals will be in operation while the main signals are replaced.
