Cumbria County Council has warmly welcomed the Government's announcement to site the new Nuclear Decommissioning Agency Headquarters in West Cumbria. The County Council is one of many agencies in the County who have been lobbying Government to bring the NDA to West Cumbria.
County Council Leader, Rex Toft says:
"This is excellent news. We have always believed that West Cumbria was the only location for the NDA and are delighted the Government share that view. To build this new Agency at Westlakes Institute is a real gesture of faith in West Cumbria.
It offers a significant boost to the Cumbrian economy given recent disappointing announcements regarding job losses, and there is no doubt spin-off benefits to other employment sectors and academic work at Westlakes will come on the back of this news.
Put alongside our new Urban Regeneration Company, Westlakes Rennaisance, now working in the area, we feel the outlook is better than it has been for some time."
