On Saturday 26 April, Cumbria County Council's Family Placement teams are holding a Family Fun day to promote Foster Care in Cumbria. The event is free, takes place between 10.00 a.m. and 2.00p.m. and is being held at the Social services car park, beside Argos at St John's precinct, Workington.
The day begins with the launch of a blimp (20ft x 6ft balloon) by the Workington Comets Speedway Team. There is fun for all the family with stalls, music dance and theatre group presentations and a variety of exciting activities. There are refreshment stands and local groups of Brownies, Guides and Sea cadets are involved too.
County Councillor John Mallinson, Cabinet spokesman for Care and Social Services says,
"I hope that lots of people turn out for this free event, have a fun day out and take the opportunity to find out more about fostering in Cumbria. Local children are in need of carers to ensure they can make the best of life chances and we are especially keen to keep children where possible, within the local community. Foster carers have a vital role to play in helping children to thrive. Many people think that there are age and other restrictions precluding them from fostering but generally that is untrue. There are no age limits, up or down - so long as you can demonstrate a mature, responsible attitude and enough energy for the task. Single people are needed as well as married or cohabiting couples because a single carer can better meet some children's needs. We are looking for ordinary people so ask yourself if you have space in your life for a child in need."
