Today, Cumbria County Council's Local Committee for Copeland agreed to grant over £450 to St James' Pre-school in Whitehaven so they can buy health and safety equipment such as removable radiotor covers and figure guards for doors at the school. This equipment will not only benefit the Pre-school but also other childcare groups using the rooms at the Church.
Members of the Committee also heard about a newly established pre-school called Lets Play Pre-school which is based in the Beacon in Whitehaven. This group is run by volunteers who are currently awaiting registration from Ofsted but will require help with funding once this has been achieved.
County Councillor Ronnie Calvin, Chair of the Local Committee says
"The health and safety of young children using these facilities is very important and I am delighted that the Committee is able to support them with this money. We want these children to not only benefit from the play and care opportunities that are provided but give them the opportunity to do this in a safe environment. This Committee has always supported early years education in Copeland which is why we would like to invite representatives from the newly established Lets Play Pre-School to come and meet our Members after they have achieved registration from Ofsted and also apply for funding."
