Today, Cumbria County Council's Local Committee for Allerdale agreed to their Services to Young People budget plan for the next financial year. The £215,175 budget will enable the Committee to further support and develop the services they currently provide to the young people of Allerdale in 2003/04.
County Councillor Barbara Cannon, Chair of the Local Committee says
"The Committee has had responsibility for administering the County Council's Services to Young People Budget in the Allerdale area since the Cumbria Youth Service and Cumbria Careers joined together to form the new Connexions Service. We believe that services to the young people of Allerdale are very important and we want to make sure we respond to the needs and aspirations of young people and the volunteer groups who work with them. This is the third year of our current 3 year plan. We recently increased our support for voluntary youth organisations and holiday play schemes because we received far more grant applications for community based youth activities than our normal budget allowed. Our priorities this year include supporting youth democracy initiatives especially in the Workington Forum areas. Young peoples' views and ideas are very important and their involvement with the Council's and other public bodies plans and programmes will strengthen local democracy."
The Local Committee encourages grant applications from local youth groups (8-16 age range), for contributions towards materials, equipment and running costs. For more information please contact John Preston, Neighbourhood Development Officer for Youth on 01900 325010.
