Workington Forums' Community Chest Bid 2003/05

Today, Cumbria County Council's Local Committee for Allerdale agreed to give extra spending support of up to £20k for its neighbourhood/community development service and forum activities for the next financial year.

The additional funding given to the service will not only strengthen community partnerships and services through a locally managed team, but will become more responsive to local community needs and enable existing local services to be developed and improved, especially in Workington where Forums have an ongoing significant role in supporting community regeneration.

County Councillor Barbara Cannon Chair of Allerdale Local Committee says

"Involving local residents in community planning, local issues and community grants is central to our work. Building and supporting active community involvement is the key to sustaining the vibrancy of our neighbourhoods, small towns and villages. We will be working with others including the Borough Council, local regeneration partnerships, and the West Cumbria Partnership to widen opportunities for community participation in the area."
