At 10.00 a.m. on Thursday 21 August at the Barnaby Rudge Public House, Tebay, Cumbria County Council launches the Tebay Community Bus in partnership with the Countryside Agency and North Cumbria Community Transport. The Council’s Eden Local Committee, in partnership with the Countryside Agency has bought a community mini bus, based in Tebay, to help small rural communities overcome problems accessing services. The move promotes the social inclusion of rural communities in Eden and confirms the Council’s commitment to community transport. County Councillor Tim Stoddard, speaking on behalf of Eden Local Committee says,
“Many people in Eden’s rural communities face daily problems in accessing local services. The new mini bus service is co-ordinated by Eden Brokerage, which in turn is operated by North Cumbria Community Transport. The brokerage manages the use of the mini bus and ensures that it is used to its full potential for the good of the community.
Cumbria County Council is committed to community transport and we are also supporting training for volunteer drivers to enable more people to become qualified mini bus drivers. The mini bus can be hired on a self-drive basis or with the provision of a volunteer driver. It is available to non-profit making groups or organisations involved in social welfare, recreation or any other activity of benefit to the local community."
Anyone interested in learning more about the community mini bus service can contact Barrie Tye, Eden Brokerage on (01768) 868118.
