19/08/03 - Talkin Tarn Stakeholders work together

Following a meeting yesterday afternoon the key stakeholders interested in the future management of Talkin Tarn have agreed to work together in identifying proposals that will preserve public access and secure the investment needed to enhance facilities. The meeting held in the County Council offices in Carlisle involved representatives of the County, Carlisle City and Brampton and Farlam Parish Councils along with Cumbria Wildlife Trust. It followed a number of meetings where the County Council had met and talked with local Councils and the Trust individually about their ideas and suggestions.

It was agreed that

  • those involved would continue to work together in drawing up proposals for the long-term future of the Tarn
  • whatever was finally decided public access to the Tarn will continue
  • representatives of the local community and user groups must continue to be involved in the long-term management of the Tarn
  • the County Council would undertake a detailed appraisal of the various ideas being put forward before the group meets again on the 8th September..

The local community and users will then be consulted about any proposals developed through these meetings. Proposals would then be referred to a meeting of the County Council for a final decision on the management and development of this important community and visitor attraction
