Workington's temporary Library at Pow Street is closing next week to enable the move back to the newly refurbished library on Vulcan's Lane.
The library will close from Tuesday 26th August so that all stock and equipment can be moved back. All Workington group libraries will continue to open during this period, with the closest to the town centre being Seaton or Moorclose. People can access the library catalogue on-line and library members already registered on CLIC can renew their books online as usual.
The refurbished library, which will provide a stylish, modern and vibrant building with greatly improved access and facilities, will open to the public at 9am on Monday, 1st September. The library has been completely transformed with enhanced ICT facilities, new lift, coffee area and an improved selection of books, videos, CDs, DVDs, PS2 games and talking books.
Councillor Tim Heslop, County Council spokesman for Libraries, said:
"This temporary library on Pow Street has been in use since last December while the work on the library took place. It has provided an ideal alternative for library users, albeit through a slightly reduced service, but is nothing in comparison with what the new Vulcan's Lane Library has to offer. I hope the closure of the temporary library will not provide too much inconvenience. An extended loan period has been set up for customers during the closure so that anyone with items due to be returned during that period will not incur fines. I hope library users will join me in looking forward to the newly refurbished library opening and all the many advantaged that it will bring in terms of improved service and surroundings."
The new library is open 9am to 7pm Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesdays and Fridays and 9am to 4pm Thursdays and Saturdays.
