County Councillor Joan Stocker, Cabinet Spokesperson for Education says
“This is a wonderful opportunity to help teachers develop and share ideas for good practice. It is very difficult to engage young people in the political process when they do not understand how it is relevant to them. This visit will allow these students to see the real side of local politics and will greatly increase their knowledge of the role they can play. The mixing of cultures and backgrounds provides young people with an unforgettable awareness and lifelong appreciation for each other. I am delighted that Cumbria is involved in such a worthwhile project.”
Jane Yates Advisory Teacher for Multicultural and Anti-Racist Education says
“The visit will provide an excellent opportunity for Cumbrian pupils to meet with students from Jordan to explore citizenship issues. Arabic speaking students at Cockermouth School will also be acting as ‘buddies’ and interpreters for our visitors during the week. We look forward to continuing to develop our links with Jordan in the future through email links.”
