15/12/03 - Jeffrey Shield, St Benedict's Catholic High School, Whitehaven

The Governing Body of St Benedict’s Catholic High School, Whitehaven and Cumbria County Council’s Education Service have made the following joint statement.

“The County Council as Local Education Authority, the Headteacher and Governors of St Benedict’s Catholic High School can confirm that Jeffrey Shield was suspended from duty without prejudice as soon as they were aware of the allegations made against him. The suspension was made in accordance with the procedures that cover Allegations made against teaching staff and the County Council’s disciplinary procedures that cover teaching staff.”

Neither the school nor the County Council are in a position to comment on the outcome of the criminal case. Now that the judicial process has been completed the Governing Body has to consider the position of Mr Shield in accordance with the procedures referred to. Until that time Mr Shield will remain suspended without prejudice and no further comment will be made by the School or the County Council.”
