Staff, pupils, parents and governors at Brisbane Park Infant School in Barrow are celebrating today after being included in Ofsted Inspectors annual successful schools list.
Schools listed have either received outstanding inspection reports or improved significantly enough to be removed from special measures and no longer considered to be failing schools.
County Councillor Joan Stocker, Cabinet Spokesperson for Education says,
"I am delighted that Ofsted has acknowledged the high level of achievement within Brisbane Park Infant School. The hard work and dedication of everyone in the school has resulted in its inclusion in the report. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the staff, governors and of course the pupils who have contributed to the school's success."
Beryl Johnson Headteacher says,
"The staff, governors and pupils of Brisbane Park were very pleased to be informed by Her Majesty's Chief Inspector that the school was to be named in his report for last year as one of the most successful schools in the Country. It is an acknowledgement of the dedication and hard work by staff and children, mainly the children. At Brisbane Park we have a dedicated team of teachers who are constantly researching ways to help children progress in their education. We have enjoyed good results in the school for many years and the school is constantly looking for ways to improve resources, teaching skills and classroom organisation to support progress.
Everyone employed by the school from cleaners to senior management have played their part in our success. We also have nucleus of parents who come into the school and help with anything from art to swimming. Over the years I have been Head of School we have enjoyed parental support and support from other agencies such as speech therapy, school nurses etc. The success of a school does not depend on just one thing; it needs all connected with it to work as a team for the good of the pupils.
We have wonderful children at Brisbane Park, who are eager to learn, do so with a good sense of humour and are well behaved. The general public have commented many times on the good behaviour and manners of our children. The children know that this is what the school expects. Together with a good nursery and a Beacon Junior School, the children in this area enjoy one of the best primary educations in the country.
I would wish to publicly thank the children, staff, parents and governors, particularly Bev Postlethwaite, my Chair of Governors for 13 years for their efforts on behalf of our school. I shall be retiring at the end of this academic year and to be informed that we are one of the most successful schools in the country, at this point in time, is a wonderful end to my career in education."
