Carlisle's new skatepark is to be made even more impressive after Carlisle Local Committee agreed to provide more funding to tarmac the surrounding area and employ a graffiti artist to help young people decorate it.
The feedback from local youngsters using the park has been very positive since it opened in November but there has been concerns about the surrounding muddy area damaging some boards
Councillor John Collier, Chairman of the Local Committee, said:
"The skatepark has been an overwhelming success and we have delighted that it has been so well used. It is a facility for the young people of Carlisle and we want to listen to what they have to say. I am they will appreciate this extra funding which will improve the environment for the hundreds of people who use this much used facility."
Local Committee agreed to give £7,500 towards the cost of tarmacing and up to £500 to cover the graffiti work. An artist will be soon be employed to work through the young people's graffiti ideas with them.
Greystone and Harraby Community Centres also benefited from Committee funding. Greystone Community Centre was given £4,844 towards funding a youth development worker and Harraby £4,500 towards running its junior and senior youth clubs.
