Today, Cumbria County Council's Local Committee for Allerdale agreed to spend up to £1000 on a short-term community arts project to brighten up the windows of Workington Library which is currently being renovated. The decision has been taken after a request was made by Councillor Stewart Samson at December's Local Committee meeting to look at the situation.
Working with different groups of young people in the town the community arts venture will help young people to produce their own visual arts to be put up in the window spaces.
County Councillor Barbara Cannon Chair of the Local Committee says,
"It's important that we move quickly on this idea. The Library looks a mess whilst the builders are in. The windows are at an important town centre crossroads. If we can help young people to produce artwork to make us all smile, and brighten the area up during building work, it will be a bit of money well spent."
