Cumbria County Council Roadworks update (2)

The County Council aims to ensure timely road maintenance with minimum disruption. Information to road users is vital and the following update relates to work being carried out now, or projects about to start in the near future. 

Major Re-surfacing AWG Highway Maintenance Ltd has secured a contract from Cumbria County Council for major re-surfacing work. The work will take place from mid-March on the A5087 Aldingham to Baycliff road, A5074 Crossthwaite to Low Yews and A683 North of Low fields and Casterton. 

Re-surfacing is also due to start on 3 March in Grasmere. The work extends from the church through the village to Broadgate Car Park and will be phased to minimise disruption. Road closure will be involved where the road is narrow. Cumbria Contract Services will carry out the work. 

Re-surfacing in Hawkshead also starts on 3 March; though it's hoped that road closure will be avoided. The work will be carried out by Cumbria Contract Services and will be followed on 10 March by the re-cobbling of parts of Wordsworth Street. The re-cobbling will be undertaken by P J Lambeth and Co. 

Thomas Armstrong Ltd is contracted to re-surface part of Oxenholme Road in Kendal. This work will begin on completion of the current work at Oxenholme Station. 

Bridge Strengthening Work has started at Lea Yeat, Cowgill. The work is mainly being carried out during the night to minimise disruption and there is a diversion in place. There won't be work carried out this weekend and the project is due to be complete on 1 March. 

After completion of Lea Yeat, work on Ewegales, Cowgill will begin. This work will be done during the day, will last for two weeks and again a diversion is in place. 

Work will begin on Monday, 24 February on Pool Bridge, Rusland and will continue for up to three weeks. Local diversions will be in place, as this daytime work will involve road closure. 

Stainton Bridge End, Woodhouse will be strengthened, with work beginning on 3 March for up to four weeks. The road will be closed for the duration of the work which will be carried out by R H Irving Ltd. Similarly, Wath Sutton at Millness will be closed for up to three weeks from 10 March and diversions will be in operation. 

Cumbria Contract Services is currently undertaking bridge-strengthening work at High and Low Pitcher, Duddon Valley. The work is likely to continue for a further two weeks and diversions are in place. 

Other Road works On 2 March Cumbria Contract Services begins waterproofing and bridge deck repairs on A595 Souterbeck Bridge. The work is due to last for one week only but needs fair weather so this period might need to extend. The road will be closed from midnight to 7.00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, 8 and 9 March. 

Traffic will be restricted at the A591 Staveley West Junction next week whilst a right turn lane is constructed. The work is due to start next week and local diversions will be in place. Thomas Armstrong Ltd is carrying out the work. 

Work continues in Kendal Town Centre. The following work is planned for next week;   

  • Re-kerbing at the entrance to Stramongate, off Blackhall Road 
  • Continuation of re-surfacing the New Road Footway 
  • Renewing kerbs on new road 
  • Footway resurfacing near the Phoenix 
  • Allhallows junction will be re-surfaced on Saturday 1 March during the night. Work will continue through Sunday. 
  • New Road will be resurfaced, with work taking place during the night, over five nights from 3 March.
