Keeping sex safe for young Valentines

Young people in Barrow are keeping sex safe this Valentine's day after taking part in a life skills project with CD;UK, investigating young people's sexual health issues.

Life Skills trainees at CD: UK have researched sexual health information from a number of sources and have designed a poster in the trainee restroom. The poster is a signpost for other young people to ensure they get the sexual health information that they need, when they need it. Ian Allanson, Connexions Cumbria has been working with the young people on this project. He says,

"As part of Cumbria's Teenage Pregnancy Strategy, we have been working with 17 and 18 year olds to enable them to gather information about contraception and other sexual health issues. The young people have used that information to put together a poster, signposting others to sexual health services and promoting safe sex. "

Fran Frankland, Cumbria Teenage Pregnancy Strategy Co-ordinator says,

"The project is part of the wider Teenage Pregnancy and Parenthood Strategy aiming to reduce teenage Pregnancy by 50% by 2010 and to support teenage Parents, promoting social inclusion. Throughout the whole of Cumbria there are projects and initiatives designed to provide education, information and support to young people."
