More community based transport for Copeland

Today, Cumbria County Council's Local Committee for Copeland allocated £20k to go towards providing a community bus to improve community transport throughout North Copeland.

The County Council, in partnership with the Countryside Agency and the voluntary sector is developing vehicle brokerage schemes across the County and a need has already been identified for more vehicles to meet demand for community transport in the area. The vehicle will be available for all community groups to use through the Copeland area Brokerage Scheme.

County Councillor Ronnie Calvin, Chair of the Local Committee says,

"I am delighted that this Committee is able to work in partnership with the Countryside Agency and part fund a community bus that will improve the vehicle brokerage scheme in Copeland. We need to support community groups who need access to affordable transport and I am sure this community bus will do just that. The Brokerage facility has already been a success in other areas of the County showing an excellent example of what can be achieved by working together at a local level. We want this scheme to be a success for the people of Copeland and hope that many people will be able to benefit from the use of the vehicle."
