Cumbria Sport is hosting the regional trials for Born to Win, the BBC's biggest ever search for new sporting talent. The trials will take place between the 7th and 21st March at schools and leisure centres in each of the 6 districts. Contestants will need to register via the BBC website by Friday 21st February if they want to take part.
Born to Win is a huge TV competition where you can win a life changing sports scholarship, tailor made for you. The competition is open to anyone aged 16 - 18, it doesn't matter what sport you play, or at what level, you've just got to have what it takes to win.
If selected contestants will be invited to take part in a physical trial. If they are successful they will then be invited to the national trials at Loughborough University. Contestants will then compete for 1 of the 16 places in the televised finals at a leading European sports location over the summer and televised on BBC 1 in the Autumn.
County Councillor Joan Stocker, Cabinet Spokesperson for Education says
"This is a fabulous competition to find the best new all round sports person in the UK and I am delighted that Cumbria Sport is hosting the regional trials to give young people of Cumbria the opportunity to take part. Cumbria Sport work extremely hard to develop sporting activities available to the young people of this County and continue to achieve high standards. This is a fun way for young people to participate in sport and I wish everyone who enters the competition every success."
Mark Drummond, Club/Coach Development Officer for Cumbria Sport says
"Born to Win is a reality TV show on a similar line to BBC's Fame Academy. The number of trials we hold will depend on the number of entrants so I would encourage anyone who is interested to apply before Friday. It is a fantastic opportunity to show that Cumbria has as much, if not more, sporting talent as the rest of the Country."
