As part of the County Councils continued commitment to `Put the Public First' and enable people to be more involved in democratic decision making, South Lakes Local Committee is holding its next meeting in Ulverston. The meeting will be held at 10.30a.m. on 28 January in the Coronation Hall enabling more people from the Ulverston area to attend the meeting.
County Councillor Anne Parker, Chair of South Lakes Local Committee explains the move. She says,
"The Local Committee meetings have traditionally been held in County Hall, Kendal. We decided to move the meeting to another venue to enable people in other areas of South Lakeland to easily access the meeting. This is the start of a developing process to build on the success of Neighbourhood forums ..This is part of a drive by Cumbria County Council to review the way people can participate in the Council's business to ensure better access to the Council and democratic decision making."
The Council's has developed it's public participation schemes over recent years to include a section in local committee meetings enabling members of the public to bring their concerns directly to councillors. This participation scheme has most recently been extended to include meetings of the full County Council.
