Speed limits in Copeland get the go ahead

Today, Cumbria County Council's Local Committee for Copeland agreed to introduce a 20mph speed limit on the section of Red Lonning and Caldbeck Road, Whitehaven in the vicinity of St Benedicts School, a 30mph limit on the A5093 in 'The Hill' village, Millom and a 20mph restriction on internal village streets on the south eastern side of the A5093. The moves come after a period of consultation to improve road safety in the area.

County Councillor Ronnie Calvin, Chair of Copeland Local Committee says,

"Copeland Local Committee is committed to 'putting the public first' and improving safety is one of its priorities. I am pleased that after consultation we have been able to reach agreement for these speed limits to go ahead. It is important that we continue to work to ensure that we reduce the speeds of vehicles on our roads and improve pedestrian safety. There has been a lot of support locally for measures to reduce speeds and improve safety and I am delighted that we can move ahead with these projects."
