Work to strengthen four bridges near Kendal next week has been planned to cause the minimum disruption to road users.
Work will start on Cowgill Bridge on the C5101 and Howgill Bridge on the U5475 on Tuesday, 8th July, on Hodge Bridge on the A683 at Barbon on Wednesday, 9th July, and on Colwith Bridge on the C5044 on Thursday, 10th July.
Nick Raymond, Area Engineer for South Lakeland and Barrow, said: “The work will involve resurfacing the four bridges to strengthen them to comply with new legislation. Normally we would need to close the road and put in a diversion but it has been decided to carry out the work during the evening hours to minimise disruption. The alternative diversion routes for these particular bridges would be lengthy and cause too much inconvenience.
The work on all the bridges will start around 6pm and finish that evening. Delay signs have been erected on the approach roads to warn road users. Temporary traffic signals will be in operation on the day the work is done to enable preparatory work to be carried out.
