Barrow's economy received a boost today after Cumbria County Council's Barrow Local Committee approved grants totalling £9,000 for a number of initiatives in the area which will in turn lever up to a further £16,600 of funding.
Alan Nicholson, Chairman of Barrow Local Committee, says,
"All the grants we have approved today will stimulate the economy of the Barrow area. New jobs and enterprises will be established as a result and I am delighted that we have been able to help. These grants will enable the businesses to draw in funding from other sources and I hope they will all prosper and go from strength to strength. "
Grants were given to South Cumbria Painting and Decorating (£1,500); Joinery Painting and Decorating (£2,500): Tony Smith Plumbing Services (£2,500); Home and Garden Maintenance (£2,500). All these grants will help establish the businesses and provide jobs.
Barrow Local Committee put side £20,000 to continue its successful Economic Initiatives Fund in April. It is hoped that this will be supported by an additional £36,000 from Neighbourhood Renewal funding. The fund was originally set up to help community businesses, the small business community and improve people's access to the jobs market.
