More childcare help for working people in Cumbria (part 6)

South Lakeland has been awarded over £32k from the National Lottery's New Opportunities Fund (NOF) to create 54 new out of school places throughout the area. With help from Cumbria Early Years development and Childcare Partnership, 4 organisations submitted bids in February this year for extra funding to create more breakfast, after school and holiday clubs. 

Since 1999, 89 clubs in Cumbria have received NOF funding. 2922 out of school places have been created as a result of this £1,7m funding which helps with most of the group's running costs such as staffing, rent, activity costs, equipment and refurbishment. 

The 4 successful bids are as follows:

County Councillor Joan Stocker, Cabinet Spokesperson for Education says 

"Congratulations to all those involved in setting up these out of school clubs. The demand for childcare is growing but needs to be good quality, affordable and meet the needs of parents. The Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership is working extremely hard with childcare providers across the County to ensure that we can continue to improve the quality, quantity and flexibility of childcare in Cumbria."
