Offers made for firm

Offers have been made for the troubled giftware company, Heredities Ltd, of Kirkby Stephen.

The firm's receivers, Tomlinson, of Manchester, said that acceptable offers had been made for the manufacturing business and for the firm's premises. The business and the property were being offered for sale separately. Negotiations were taking place, but were at a sensitive stage. Decisions on the offers were expected to be made early next week.

Cumbria County Council has set up a high level task force, chaired by County Councillor Lawson Short, the Cabinet member with responsibility for economic development and regeneration. The task force met with the receivers to see what help it could provide, particularly to the 43 employees whose jobs are affected. The task force remains ready to give what assistance it can.
