Cumbria Carers Strategy

This week, Cumbria County Council launched the Cumbria Carers Strategy at The Crown Hotel, Wetheral. This event coincides with the start of National Carers week and many activities will take place around the County throughout the week. 150 carers and supporters enjoyed meeting up from all corners of the County for discussion and an excellent afternoon tea. For some, this was a welcome refreshment after visiting the Rheged Centre and touring the Lakes on their way north.

County Councillor John Mallinson, Spokesperson for Care & Social Services was delighted to launch the strategy. He gave a well-received speech on the importance of the caring role, and was able to take the opportunity to thank carers for their enormous efforts, without which Council services would be swamped. He thanked partners from Health, Social Services, other agencies and Voluntary organisations and not least the 5 Carers Associations for their hard work in producing the Carers Strategy. He recognised the major targets for action over the next year and also spoke of the improvement in the profile of carers and caring organisations and felt that every effort should be made to keep that profile high and work closely with carers.
