Alan Smith, Headteacher of Lochinvar School in Longtown has made the following statement
"I am very disappointed that the swimming pool at the school has had to be closed and will not open again this year. The school has taken this decision after vandalism took place on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th June leaving the pool in such a state that it is now unsafe for anyone to use. The main health and safety problem is broken glass in and around the pool. Unfortunately this means that school lessons, the school swimming gala day and all swimming club activities have to be cancelled.
Frequent vandalism has made the pool unsafe regularly over the past few years. At present the school cannot ensure the safety of any pool users. As a result we have no other choice but to close the pool as the safety of our pupils is our main concern."
The Police are currently investigating the incident.
