On Saturday 28th June at 1pm North Allerdale Mini Sure Start is celebrating National Sure Start month by taking part in the Wigton Carnival.

Their mobile Toy Library Van, which is the first in North Cumbria, will be included in the Parade. After the Parade parents and children will be able to take part in various activities including face painting and craft. Parents and children will then be able to have a look at the new toy library and see what educational based toys are provided. Information will also be available to parents on services available to them in North Allerdale.

County Councillor Joan Stocker, Cabinet Spokesperson for Education says

"The Mini Sure Start Initiative is a wonderful opportunity for parents in some areas of the County who have a disadvantage in accessing childcare services for under 4's. One of Cumbria County Council's main priorities is to extend early years education and childcare services. Access to good nursery education and childcare are essential to contribute to the well-being of families and the educational progress. We want to make sure that we continue to work in partnership with local parents to improve how these services are delivered locally. I hope that parents and children take the opportunity to join in and have a great day out and find out how they can benefit from Sure Start activities like the mobile Toy Library."

Jane Williamson, Early Years & Childcare Service Manager for Cumbria Early Years Development & Childcare Partnership says

"The Toy Library will prove to be a great benefit to parents and young children in North Allerdale who have not been able to use this type of service before."

Elaine Thomas, North Allerdale Mini Sure Start Programme Manager says to all families with babies and young children

"Come along, join in the fun and games. Look out for our eye-catching bright orange & turquoise Sure Start team. Find out about our new Stay & Play sessions now on offer in village halls near you. At Stay & Play you can have lots of fun & song, borrow good quality toys from the Toy Library and get information about child & family health. Sure Start is funded for 2 more years and we now need parents and grandparents to get involved with us in creating worthwhile & exciting activities that really make a difference for children & families in all of North Allerdale's parishes."
