£500 for Farmers Market Initiative
Today, Cumbria County Council's Eden Local Committee gave a grant of £500 to help towards the funding of a recipe book and production of publicity leaflets to support Brough Farmers market.
County Councillor Mary Warburton, Chair of Eden Local Committee, says,
"I am delighted to be able to make this award and to help this not-for-profit organisation promoting a positive economic initiative in a rural community. The recipe book, based on an existing book published in 1924, includes household hints and country sayings along with traditional local recipes. I am pleased to also be able to help fund the publicity leaflets for Brough Farmers Market and wish the market every success in the future.
The Committee aims to create and safeguard local jobs by supporting a wide range of innovative economic initiatives in the community. Individual grants can be used by small businesses and not-for-profit organisations. Supporting local economic initiatives helps the regeneration of rural communities."
Marion Williams, Brough Farmers market Co-ordinator says,
"I am delighted to receive this funding from Eden Local Committee. The Farmer's Market began in March 2002. It is an indoor market, which usually has around 15 local farmers and producers regularly trading every month. We have on average around 350 customers. The market is held every third Saturday in the month at Brough Memorial Hall. Our most successful day to date was at Easter when we had more than 800 customers. Brough Farmers Market has tremendous community support and is going from strengt5h to strength. This support from Eden Local Committee for publicity and the production of the recipe book is very much appreciated."
