Twelve schools from Allerdale, Carlisle and Eden took part in this years ACE Dance Festival at the Sands Centre in Carlisle at the weekend. The festival aims to give children the experience in working with a dance specialist in their own school environment to produce a piece for performance and watch others perform. Teachers also benefit by developing their own skills and expertise through working with the dance specialist.
This year the festival's dance themes included Harry Potter, James Bond, the seaside, India and Africa and was funded by the Esme Fairburn Trust through Dance City in Newcastle and the Cumberland building Society.
County Councillor Joan Stocker, Cabinet Spokesperson for Education says
"This is entirely consistent with the Council's commitment to encourage and increase the amount of sport and other activities available in schools whilst continuing to work to raise educational standards for all of the children in this County. The schools who took part in the Dance Festival spent one term on a curriculum piece with the support from a dance worker for 4 lessons. It is a wonderful opportunity for these children to gain experience in dance as well as having a lot of fun at the same time. This is the second year that this festival has been held and has again been a success. I am sure there will be many more for us to enjoy."
