Deaf and hard of hearing people in the Barrow area are to benefit thanks to a grant from Barrow Local Committee.
The Local Committee awarded Cumbria Deaf Association a grant of £1,000 to part fund childcare to support staff training in the Barrow branch. The grant will help a member of staff gain a teaching qualification that will enable them to teach adults on a range of subjects related to deaf issues, such as deaf awareness and sign language.
Councillor Alan Nicholson, Chairman of Barrow Local Committee, said:
"The information that the member of the Barrow branch will be able to pass on to people with hearing difficulties will help deaf people in the area greatly by improving and developing their communication skills, which will in turn improve their social, educational and employment opportunities. It will also help raise deaf awareness issues to the general public. I am pleased we have been able to help with this grant."
