Two early years groups in the Carlisle area received funding from Carlisle Local Committee today towards community based projects.
Scotby Pre-School was given a grant of £1,557 towards buying a computer, tables and chairs and other equipment. The extra equipment was needed after the group, which provides childcare and nursery education for pre-school children, extended its provision last year to include lunchtime and afternoon sessions. This extra provision gives parents more flexibility for employment, training and other commitments.
Tot Stop Pre School group in Currock was given a grant of £750 to buy a new computer. The group provides childcare and nursery education for pre school children and promotes strong community involvement whereby parents are encouraged to become involved in the overall management of the group as well as the children's activities.
Councillor John Collier, Chairman of Carlisle Local Committee, said:
"I am pleased, as always, to be able to provide help to early years groups, all of which offer a very valuable service to our youngest members of society and their families. The grant to Scotby Pre School group will buy equipment, helping run the extra sessions which give parents much more flexibility. Tot Stop also offers a valuable service and the new computer will give children the chance to build on a range of skills and enable parents to become more involved in their child's pre-school education and development by helping them on the computer. The computer is also essential in helping the group maintain contact with local schools and ease the transition for the children from pre school to school."
