Two new interactive speed signs are to be installed in Carlisle and Dalston following funding approved by Carlisle Local Committee.
One sign will be erected on Brampton Road and the other on The Green, Dalston, in a bid to encourage motorists to stick to the speed limits. The signs are fitted with a sensor which can detect how fast motorists are going and if drivers are breaking the limit, a flashing sign showing the limit lights up to let them know.
Councillor John Collier, Chairman of the Local Committee, said:
"I am pleased we have been able to fund these signs. They not only remind people of the speed limit, they also let people know when they are going to fast. Anything we can do to reduce speeding in residential areas, a major cause of road accidents, can only be a good thing."
There are currently three similar signs in the Carlisle area, one on Durdar Road, one on Blackwell Road and the other in Scotby.
The scheme was funded by Carlisle Local Committee and Neighbourhood Forums.
