The residents parking scheme in the east of Carlisle is to be extended to include the area around St Martin's College.
Residents living near to the college have asked for some time that the scheme be extended due to parking problems created as a result of students parking on the streets. Other problems were raised including parking in the area on football match days and parking by school staff in the current restricted area.
Councillor John Collier, Chairman of Carlisle Local Committee, said:
"This issue has been bothering people living near to St Martin's College for some time and I am pleased we have been able to help resolve the problem. I am sure this scheme will benefit local residents tremendously. Public consultation will be carried out over the next few months to find out exactly what local people want and then the scheme will be progressed."
The Local Committee approved £12,000 of funding. St Martins has provided £15,000. Under the residents parking scheme, there are restrictions as to how long people can park on the designated streets with residents being exempt from these.
