Sedbergh learns if its bid for book town status is a winner

The results of a management study into whether Sedbergh has what it takes to make a successful book town will be presented in the town's People's Hall on Friday, March 21st at 12 noon.

Cumbria County Council awarded Sedbergh and District Chamber of Trade £10,000 from its Rural First Aid programme to carry out a consultation exercise into the possibility of Sedbergh becoming a book town. Renowned consultant Professor Tony Seaton has spent the past four months working on the project and Friday's presentation is the culmination of that work.

He will outline whether Sedbergh will make a good book town, the benefits of such a venture and what would be involved in such a project. If successful, book town status could have a huge impact on the town.

Councillor Joe Nicholson, Vice Chairman of Cumbria County Council, will open the meeting and then Professor Seaton will present his findings. There will be information and illustrations about other book towns from all around the world. Professor Seaton has been involved with many other book town projects, including the Wigtown's successful bid.

After the presentation, the exhibition and findings will be open for local people and other interested parties to have a look at.
