St Cuthberts Catholic Primary School in Windermere celebrate a successful Ofsted Inspection

Staff, pupils and parents at St Cuthberts Catholic Primary School in Windermere are celebrating this week after Ofsted Inspectors praised the school for their hard work and achievements.

The Inspectors report said the school is a good and improving school. The Headteacher, Mrs J Whitaker, and key staff, provide very good leadership and care for their pupils well. There are no significant weaknesses and improvements in the quality of teaching and a richer, more balanced curriculum are leading to pupils making better progress. The quality of teaching is very good and when all these factors, plus the improvements since the last inspection, are taken into account the school gives good value for money.

Mrs Whitaker Headteacher says

"We at St Cuthberts are all very pleased with this report which reflects on the hard work undertaken by all at the school. This report placed alongside current and planned building work at the school really lifts the spirits of us all and augurs well for the future of St Cuthberts."

The main findings of the report were:

  • The leadership and management of the headteacher are very strong and effective
  • The school enables children to develop as mature, well-rounded individuals who respect and care for others
  • Much of the teaching is good and as a result, children enjoy school, work hard and learn effectively
  • It provides very well for pupils with special educational needs
  • The strong commitment and teamwork of staff and governors is enabling the school to improve at a very good rate

The school was last inspected in 1997 and has made very good progress since then. Any problems that were identified at the last inspection have been turned around significantly. The Inspectors also found that the parents' views of the school are very positive and feel that the school helps their children become mature and responsible.
