Today, Cumbria County Council's Local Committee for Copeland looked at ways to improve cultural development in Copeland working in close partnership with the Borough Council. The Committee was presented with a Cultural Strategy and Action Plan to address the issues they feel a priority and opportunities to work closer with Copeland Borough Council to develop cultural activity within the area.
County Councillor Ronnie Calvin, Chair of the Local Committee says
"Adopting a Local Cultural Strategy both at local and County levels offers exciting opportunities to develop the cultural life of the Copeland area. However, to make this work, we need to make sure that we work closely in partnership with Copeland Borough Council to achieve our priorities and ensure that the resources available are used effectively to benefit the area. Culture is very important within our communities, it brings people together, contributes to the local economy and creates and environment where everyone has the opportunity to take part in a range of cultural activities of the highest quality and we want to make sure that this is available to the people of Copeland. I am delighted that this strategy addresses how the County Council intends to achieve this and we will do all we can to make this work. This Local Committee already has a good working relationship with the Borough Council and I am sure that addressing this issue will be no exception."
Representatives from Cumbria County Council's Community, Economy and Environment Department and Copeland Borough Council will make a joint presentation to the Local Committee in the near future on the issues and opportunities for closer cultural sector working in the Copeland area.
