Working parents to get more help with childcare

Cumbria has again been awarded over £229,622 from the National Lottery's New Opportunities Fund (NOF) to create 250 new out of school places throughout the County. With help from Cumbria Early Years development and Childcare Partnership, 14 organisations submitted bids in October last year for extra funding to create more breakfast, after school and holiday clubs.

Since 1998 over thousands of out of school places have been created in Cumbria of which 2,600 are NOF funded. This funding will help with most of the group's running costs such as staffing, rent, activity costs, equipment and refurbishment.

County Councillor Joan Stocker, Cabinet Spokesperson for Education says

"I am delighted that this County is continuing to increase the amount of childcare provision to assist working parents in the area. The demand for childcare is increasing all the time and we need to make sure that the childcare that is provided is good quality, affordable and meet the needs of parents. The Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership works very hard with many childcare providers across the County to ensure that we can continue to improve the quality, quantity and flexibility of childcare in Cumbria."
