£7,740 grants to support early years in Eden

Today, Cumbria County Council's Eden Local Committee awarded £7,740 in grants to early years projects in the area. The grants aim to support early years provision in rural communities.

The following is a list of today's grants, approved by Eden Local Committee,

  • £500 to the Jellytots Parent and Toddler group at Great Asby to provide appropriate toys and safety for the new group, enabling babies and toddlers to play safely whilst parents and carers can socialise.
  • £2,240 to Shap Parents' School association to buy new tables and chairs for the new nursery class and a designated foundation play area.
  • £500 to Kirkoswald After School Club to buy additional equipment including specialist art, sewing and crafts materials for this well established after school club.
  • £4,500 to the Oaklea Trust for the delivery of the early Birds Scheme. Early Birds is a specialist programme providing effective early intervention for pre-school children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The programme will run during the Summer term and provides intensive training for parents, helping them to understand and manage the effects of ASD on their children's social and communication skills.

County Councillor Mary Warburton, Chair of Eden Local Committee, says,

"I am pleased to support early years provision in Eden. With new housing comes new and younger families and it is important that there are facilities in rural communities to support young children and their parents and carers. All of the schemes supported today are of benefit to local people and promote social inclusion for parents and early education and play opportunities for young children."
