Today, Cumbria County Council announced that Jean Bradshaw, currently Head of Strategic Development and Quality Control for Social Services, has been appointed as the new Acting Director. Jean replaces Mike Siegal who was recently appointed as the Council's new Deputy Chief Executive. County Councillor John Mallinson, Cabinet spokesman for Care and Social Services says:
"I am pleased to announce that Jean Bradshaw has been appointed Acting Director of Social Services. Jean has worked for the Council for 27 years and has spent the past four years as Head of Strategic Development and Quality Control. She has managed all areas of Social Services including children's services and all aspects of adult care. In 1992 Jean became a Principal Inspector and Head of Inspection in 1994. I have worked with Jean Bradshaw for some time now and consider her to be a very capable Manager, committed to the delivery and improvement of front line services for the people of Cumbria."
It is anticipated that Jean Bradshaw will take over as Acting Director in July. The permanent post of Director of Cumbria Social Services will be advertised immediately and it is hoped that a permanent appointment can be made before the end of the year. "I'm very pleased to have been appointed as Acting Director of Social Services. I look forward to meeting the challenges posed by the post and will work towards the further improvement of local service delivery. I have an excellent team of Senior Managers and staff, who will work with me to continue the modernisation of Social Services and the development of support services for vulnerable people in the county."
