A successful arts fair held in Barrow last year can now become an annual event thanks to funding from Barrow Local Committee.
Local councillors agreed today to provide an annual grant of £2,000 to Barrow Arts Forum to run the annual Arts Fair in the town.
Councillor Alan Nicholson, Chairman of Barrow Local Committee, said:
"This Local Committee is a keen supporter of initiatives to support young people in the town and I am pleased we have been able to agree this funding to ensure this worthwhile event can take place.
The Arts Fair was held for the first time last year and it proved to be a great success. More than 900 young people had the opportunity to meet local artists and take part in various arts activities, raising awareness of arts opportunities among young people, school staff and those artists taking part.
For the past four years, this Local Committee has funded an annual Sports Fair at Hoops. This has been a huge success, attracting nearly 900 Year 8 pupils from the Barrow area who have taken part in taster activities and met local clubs (is this each year). I hope this new venture will be as successful."
Last year, the fair was able to operate due to a one off grant. The Local Committee's annual grant will go towards the cost of transport, room hire, publicity and the cost of materials to be used on the day.
